Erg Chigaga from M'hamid
If you are already in the south, this is the short way into the biggest dunes in the region. No long drive from Marrakech — you start where the tarmac ends.

Day by day
The day trip
Leave M'hamid in the morning, about two hours of track west, past the nomad wells and out onto the erg. Time in the dunes, lunch in the shade, and back to the village in the afternoon.
Staying the night
The same drive out, but you stay. Sunset from the top of a dune, dinner and fire at the camp, and the sky with no light anywhere near it. Back after sunrise and breakfast.
Getting to M'hamid
M'hamid is 8 to 9 hours by road from Marrakech, about an hour and a half from Zagora. There is a daily bus. If you would rather we collected you from Marrakech, Ouarzazate or Zagora, we can arrange that — ask when you write.
